Jay Pongruengphant

National Project Officer on Governance, Human Rights and LGBT, UNDP, Thailand

Jay Pongruengphant is the national project officer on governance, human rights and LGBTI for UNDP, Bangkok. In his capacity, he also supports the implementation of the 'Being LGBTI in Asia and the Pacific' initiative. Jay is working closely with LGBTI civil society organizations, engaging national and regional institutions to advocate for LGBTI protective laws and policies, and empower civil society leaders in Thailand. Before joining UNDP, Jay worked as a consultant for the Tripartite Action to Protect Migrant Workers from Labour Exploitation by the International Labour Organization and supported the organization in strengthening the development and implementation of recruitment and labour protection policies and practices. He provided technical assistance in developing the policy advocacy report on equality of treatment for migrant worker complaints and benefit claims in Thailand. Jay also provided technical assistance to the finalization of labor inspection modules and the protocol guidelines on reaching vulnerable workers and those in the hard-to-reach sector. Prior to this, Jay served the United Nations Inter-Agency Project on Human Trafficking in Thailand as information analyst providing programmatic support on all project activities as well as assisting the Thai National COMMIT Taskforces in the implementation of their national annual work plans. In addition, Jay was responsible for collecting, mapping and updating information on the current human trafficking situation. Jay holds a bachelor's degree in international relations from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and a master's degree in international management from Queen Mary and Westfield College, UK.
