Maria Luz Melon

Luz Melon is a diplomat with 17-years experience in multilateral organizations. She is currently a Minister-Counselor at the Embassy of Argentina and Permanent Mission to the International Organizations in Vienna, and from 2005 to 2012 was posted at the United Nations in New York, and participated as Argentinean expert in the UNGA Third Committee - of which she was Vice- Chair in 2010-2011. At the UN, she was also elected as Vice Chair of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in 2011. Upon her return to the Ministry of Foreign affairs, Luz continued to work extensively with human rights and social development issues in 2012-2015 at the Division for International Organizations, coordinating Argentina's participation in the the UN Comission on Population and Development, as well as the follow-up of MDGs and during the SDGs negotiation process. Luz has been a professor and invited lecturer at several universities in Argentina, including Universidad de Buenos Aires, Universidad iSalud, FLACSO, Universidad Di Tella as well as at National Foreign Service Institute (ISEN), and a panelist at International Conferences, Round Tables and Seminars on the UN human rights and development agenda. Luz also translated into Spanish several works on international law jurisprudence and philosophy, including by Joseph RAZ and Michael SANDEL, published by Editorial Gedisa between 1999 and 2003.
