Fari Nzinga

Independent curator, writer and educator, Oberlin, Ohio, United States

Fari Nzinga was the inaugural postdoctoral curatorial fellow at Kalamazoo Institute of Arts (KIA) and a visiting professor at Kalamazoo College in Michigan. At the KIA she conducted research, wrote exhibition didactics, coordinated and co-curated exhibitions in the curatorial department. In the Art and Art History department at K College, she designs object-based learning courses and frequently brought students to view the KIA's permanent collection and traveling exhibitions. A trained anthropologist, her scholarship focused on Black and Afro-diasporic cultures, intellectual histories, and aesthetics; as a museum professional she is interested in issues of equity, inclusivity and justice. Her most recent project includes, Where We Stand: Black Artists in Southwest Michigan; an exhibition, artist residency and documentary. She has previously curated The Rent Is Too Damn High! an exhibition in celebration of the New Orleans tricentennial; and Better Must Come, an exhibition of Black and Latino artists based in New Orleans. She received an M.A. and PhD from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
