Mónica María Leonardo Segura

Mónica María Leonardo Segura is an attorney specializing in human rights and rule of law, including reform of the security and justice sector, transitional justice, gender, HIV and LGBTI rights; focusing on countries affected by conflict (Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Tunisia, and Syria). Her experience includes technical assistance, capacity building, analysis and legislative proposal, research, lobbying, and advocacy and strategic litigation. She has served as a consultant for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, UNDP, the United Nations Population Fund, the Pan American Health Organization, and UNAIDS. She has also collaborated with international non-governmental organizations such as Counterpart International, Freedom House, and the International HIV / AIDS Alliance. Additionally, she has worked with community-based organizations on issues of transgender women and people living with HIV. She graduated as an attorney and notary at Rafael Landívar University in Guatemala, and holds a Master's Degree in law from Georgetown University, Washington, DC, where she attended as a Fulbright Scholar. She lives in Guatemala with her husband, Byron and their daughter, Daniela.
