Paul Mihailidis

Program Director, Salzburg Media Academy

Paul Mihailidis is the Program Director of the Salzburg Academy on Media and Global Change, an annual three-week summer seminar that gathers over 60 students and a dozen faculty to explore media‚Äôs role in social and global change. Paul is an Assistant Professor in the School of Communication at Emerson College in Boston, MA, USA, where he teaches media literacy, and interactive communication. His research focuses on the nexus of media, education, and civic voices. He is the author forthcoming book, Media Literacy and the Emerging Citizen, (2014, Peter Lang) which outlines effective practices for engaged citizenship in digital culture. In addition to a host of articles and book chapters, he has edited News Literacy (2012, Peter Lang) and Media Literacy Education in Action (2013, Routledge). Paul is the co-editor of the Journal of Media Literacy Education, sits on the board of directors for the National Association of Media Literacy Education in the United States, and is the incoming director of the newly formed Global Engagement Lab at Emerson College. Paul received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland - College Park, USA, his M.Phil. from the University of Stirling, UK, and a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts, USA.
