A message from Benjamin Glahn, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Salzburg Global Seminar

Dear Friends,

We have been encouraged by those who responded to last week’s message honoring the legacy of our outgoing Vice President and Chief Program Officer, Clare Shine.

Her nine years at Salzburg Global Seminar were driven by a personal passion for sustainability that guided the creation of programs and initiatives focused on creating healthier and more inclusive spaces and preserving the world around us. Her work fundamentally improved the way we operate, and we are grateful for her tireless service to our programs and our global Fellowship.

To honor this legacy, we have established a fund in Clare’s name to support projects that maintain the biodiversity and sustainable use of our 17-acre Schloss Leopoldskron Park and Garden. The fund will help support the planting of 75 trees by 2022 – making the Park ever more beautiful and inspirational for future Fellows and visitors, just in time for our 75th-anniversary celebrations. Those who have not yet given can make a gift here to show their support for the Park to honor Clare’s pursuit of a more creative, just, and sustainable world.

To all who have given: thank you. Your show of support will help the creative redevelopment of the protected space that has been an integral part of our Fellows' and guests' experiences for nearly 75 years.

As a parting gift and commemoration of the new fund, one of Clare’s last activities with Salzburg Global was the planting of a tree in her honor in the Park – a place she frequented often with Fellows, her husband Mike, and their dog Binji, for quiet strolls and reflection. With the help of your generous donations, our collective commitment to sustainable development will help ensure our Schloss Park will serve as a beautiful and welcoming space for visitors from all over the world for many years to come.
