Salzburg Global Establishes New Fund in Recognition of Clare Shine

The fund will support projects to maintain biodiversity and the sustainable use of the Schloss Park by guests and Salzburg Global Fellows Clare Shine at Salzburg Global Seminar

Dear Friends,

On behalf of everyone at Salzburg Global Seminar, we write today to bid a fond farewell and express our deepest thanks to Clare Shine, who on February 26 will conclude her tenure as Vice President and Chief Program Officer at Salzburg Global Seminar and become Director of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership on April 12.

Over the past nine years, Clare has guided and inspired Fellows, partners, and colleagues in seeking to shape a more creative, just, and sustainable world. She has created strategies to advance our mission and our goals, spawning radically fresh thinking and solutions. Many of you have benefited from her leadership, encouragement, and friendship.

As you may know, Clare’s personal and professional commitment to sustainability is deep and longstanding. While at Salzburg Global, she has urged sustainable practices in our historic property and steps to reduce our carbon footprint, and in 2015 guided the creation of our Parks for the Planet Forum to reconnect people and nature in an urbanized world. In recognition of Clare’s legacy at Salzburg Global and nine years in residence at Schloss Leopoldskron, we are asking our Fellows and friends to join us in honoring Clare by supporting the creative redevelopment of our 17-acre Schloss Leopoldskron Park.

This is more than symbolic. As we look toward our 75th anniversary in 2022, the role of our historic park in protecting green space and inspiring future Fellows and guests through outdoor events, music, and drama performances will be a critical part of our future.

Clare has always looked beyond our walls and sought to ensure that Salzburg Global’s programs and Schloss Leopoldskron’s beauty are inclusive and open to everyone. In recognition of this legacy, we are establishing a fund in Clare’s name to support projects to maintain biodiversity and the sustainable use of the Schloss Park by guests and Fellows. We invite you to join in making this possible by making a contribution today of any size here.

Thankfully, Clare will remain an active member of the Salzburg Global family. We look forward to welcoming her and you back to Schloss Leopoldskron soon, and to showing you the improvements we will make with the Clare Shine Fund.

In the meantime, please take a moment to send her your best wishes by following this link.

Thank you, Clare, and auf Wiedersehen in Salzburg!
