Pireeni Sundaralingham speaking at Session 561 | Beyond Green: The Arts as a Catalyst for SustainabilityPireeni Sundaralingam, Fellow of The Neuroscience of Art: What are the Sources of Creativity and Innovation? and Beyond Green: The Arts as a Catalyst for Sustainability, has been featured on an interview on Salzburg Radio Station FM4.Sundaralingam talked about her experience of immigration and integration as a Sri Lankan immigrant in the UK and the psychological impact facing Syrian immigrants.An innovative and cross-boundary thinker, California-based Sundaralingam has brought her expertise on cognitive science as science advisor to the Irish Government’s Department of Art & Heritage and poetry as an associate professor in the Department of Writing, Consciousness & Creative Inquiry at the California Institute of Integral Studies to two Salzburg Global sessions. She provided insights on the effective ways to change public mindsets by understanding the way brains accept information as well as how poetry can serve psychological purposes as in when she used a structural poetic device to help her confront and deal with a traumatic moment in her family's history.She talks about some of the underlying xenophobic issues she faced within the UK and the psychological damage segregation from society can have on immigrants. She also referenced the benefits Austria has faced through art produced together by Syrian refugees and Austrians that allows immigrants to feel like people rather than surviving victims.You can listen to the full interview below.
