Amal Basha honored at annual Takreem Awards
Amal Basha speaks at a session about democratic transition in the Middle East.Congratulations to Amal Basha—a Salzburg Global Fellow who attended the 2013 session entitled,
"Getting Transition Right: A Rights-Based Approach Towards Diversity and Inclusivity"—who was named the Arab Woman of the Year at the annual Takreem Awards on November 9 in Morocco.Basha, a human rights advocate from Yemen, is the chairperson of the Sisters' Arab Forum for Human Rights (SAF) and advisor for the International Coalition on the Criminal Court and for the Ministry of Human Rights in Yemen. In her role with SAF, she defends the rights of women, prisoners and refugees, and fights for more political freedoms.Each year, the Takreem Awards honor top Arab leaders and thinkers. Other categories include awards for Cultural Excellence, Scientific and Technological Advancement, and Innovation in Education.
