Government-Related Holocaust Education/Information

Ministry of Education – Liberia does not appear to mandate the teaching of the Holocaust; A national curriculum could not be located. Curricular reform undertaken in conjunction with the United Nations and UNESCO includes the development of a human rights and peace studies curriculum.

In March 2011, Gambia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone issued stamps honoring 12 Jews who fought apartheid and racism in Africa.

Strongheart Fellowship Program – The Strongheart Fellowship Program was originally based in Robertsport, Liberia, but relocated to Austin, Texas. It is a healing and learning residential program for young people from challenging circumstances, often those displaced or orphaned by violent conflict. The program aims to develop compassionate problem-solvers who can affect social change.

Charles Taylor, the former President of Liberia convicted of aiding and abetting the commission war crimes in Sierra Leone’s civil war, has allegedly converted to Judaism. One of his wives, Victoria Taylor, told the BBC World Service in June 2009.
