Political Leadership and Media Democracy

Abstract

The impact of the media on political leadership is a timely and relevant theme with widespread implications for future developments in the political landscape of the United States. This workshop will bring together political scientists, historians, journalists, and scholars of American Studies to examine the Nixon, Reagan, Bush and Clinton eras, charting changes, highlighting developments, and indicating the evolving relevance of the relationships between political leadership, the media, and public opinion. The various ways in which politicians relate to and use the media and public opinion in exercising leadership will also be examined.
