CULTURAL INNOVATORS FORUM

Participant Profile

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY CULTURAL INNOVATOR?

You are an artist, activist, creative changemaker, community organizer, arts administrator, or entrepreneur.

You use the power of arts and culture to drive equitable social, environmental, and physical transformation in your community.

You have a few years 2-5 years of experience doing this work but want to explore and gain global perspectives in order to advance your work for an even greater impact.

You’ll be comfortable communicating in English, as this is the most common shared language of our global network and the working language of Salzburg Global Seminar. We’re not expecting perfection but want to be able to get to know you.

You’ll demonstrate an open mind and a commitment to gaining new global perspectives. You definitely don’t need to have had international experience before. An open mind and curiosity to learn from others is key.

WHO IS THE CULTURAL INNOVATORS FORUM FOR?

If you connected the description of above, the Cultural Innovators Forum is likely for you. Our definition of cultural innovation is broad. The Forum network is multi-disciplinary and encompasses creative disciplines ranging from the visual and performing arts, literature, and cultural heritage, to foods, fashion, architecture, and design.

Our diversity is our strength. The Forum is powerful because it includes various life experiences, professional paths, and creative disciplines. What connects us is a shared drive and passion for making the world a better place through creativity and the arts.

Salzburg Global actively encourages applications by creatives from communities that have been historically less visible in the arts and culture sector. We especially welcome applications from people of color, differently-abled people, those who identify as LGBT*, folks with low-income backgrounds, and those from ethnically diverse, Indigenous, and migrant backgrounds.

*LGBT: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender. We are using this term as it is currently widely used in human rights conversations on sexual orientation and gender identity in many parts of the world, and we would wish it to be read as inclusive of other cultural concepts, contemporary or historical, to express sexuality and gender, intersex and gender non-conforming identities.

WHO ISN'T THE CULTURAL INNOVATORS FORUM FOR?

If you have already taken part in several leadership programs, been able to travel abroad extensively with your work, established yourself as a leader in your field beyond your sector and/or local community, long acted as trainer or mentor to other creatives in your field, then this program might not be for you. But we welcome you sharing this opportunity with others in your community who might better fit the profile.

WHERE ARE CULTURAL INNOVATORS BASED?

Each year approximately 50 new cultural innovators from around the world join the network by participating in the Annual Global Co-lab. New network members are selected based on their potential, creative vision, and commitment to making a difference in their communities.

  • Abu Dhabi, UAE
  • Athens, Greece
  • Baltimore, MD, USA

I’M NOT BASED IN A HUB LOCATION, ARE THERE STILL WAYS FOR ME TO GET INVOLVED?

We know that cultural innovators are doing inspiring work around the globe and that many of you who are not based in our Hub locations are would have a lot to contribute to the Forum. To help us ensure maximum impact from the Forum, the network is structured as a series of Hubs developed with partners in cities and regions around the world. This means that we can only accept applications from people based in the Hubs that are participating in the Annual Co-Lab for that year.

As a nonprofit organization, Salzburg Global is always seeking to broaden our global network of partners to scale this work to involve more changemakers from different parts of the world. If you are interested in supporting a Cultural Innovators Forum Hub in your city or region, please let us know by contacting the Program Team.

In the meantime, we encourage you to follow Salzburg Global on social media and to subscribe to our newsletter. We do regular online events that are open to the public and share opportunities to become part of our programs through these channels.

HOW WILL PARTICIPANTS BE SELECTED?

All eligible applications are reviewed by Salzburg Global program staff and members of the Cultural Innovators Forum network. Participants are selected carefully selected to ensure diversity of knowledge and life experience within the network.
