Eric Hayes is the head of Unit for Relations with the United States, Directorate General I of the European Commission in Brussels. During his twenty-five year service in the EC, he has held several posts including head of the European Commission Delegation in Finland; head of the Unit for Bilateral Relations with the Scandinavian countries, Finland, Iceland, Austria, and Switzerland; deputy head of the EFTA Unit in the Directorate General for External Relations; and economic assistant to the director-general for external relations. Earlier in his career, Mr. Hayes served as assistant manager of the International Affairs Department of the British Steel Corporation in London. He received a B.A. with honors in philosophy, politics, and economics from Magdalen College at Oxford University.
