Ekaterina STEPANOVA heads the Peace and Conflict Studies Unit at the Institute of the World Economy and International Relations, Moscow (IMEMO). Between 2007 and 2009, she was on leave from IMEMO to direct the Armed Conflicts and Conflict Management Program at Stockholm International Peace Institute (SIPRI). The focus of her research is on armed conflicts, asymmetrical violence, one-sided violence against civilians, political economy of conflicts, networks and violence, and peace-building. She serves on editorial boards of the journals Terrorism and Political Violence (UK) and International Journal of Conflict and Violence (Germany) as well as on the expert panel of the Global Peace Index. She is a member of the US-Russia Expert group on Afghan narco-trafficking and on the advisory board of the “Security in Transition” program at the London School of Economics. She lectures at the European University in Saint Petersburg and is a visiting lecturer at European Peace University, Austria. Dr. Stepanova is a Fellow of Salzburg Global Seminar Session 430, European Responses to Terrorism, in 2006.
