Edna Roland

Edna Roland is president of Fala Preta-Organização de Mulheres Negras (Organization of Black Women) in São Paulo, Brazil. Ms. Roland is the former executive coordinator and health program coordinator of Geledés-Instituto da Mulher Negra (Geledés-Institute of Black Women), in São Paulo. A social psychologist, Ms. Roland previously worked in public health centers and was a consultant for the Women's Health Program of São Paulo City Health Department. A co-founder of Geledés, Ms. Roland designed a health program that incorporates a gender and ethnic perspective through the development of educational and research projects with low-income women and youth. Ms. Roland is a member of the Director Councils of the National Feminist Network on Health and Reproductive Rights, a member of the National Commission on Citizenship and Reproduction, and an activist at the Black Movement in Brazil. Ms. Roland was a senior fellow at the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies in 1998. She has an M.A. from the Pontificia Universidade Católica de São Paulo; and is a Ph.D. candidate in the Social Psychology Program at Pontificia Universidade Católica de São Paulo. Ms. Roland was a faculty member at Salzburg Seminar Session 334, Health Care Partnerships: Meeting the Needs of Underserved Communities, 1996.
