Dietmar Nickel

Dietmar NICKEL is the director general for External Policies for the European Parliament. Prior to this position, Dr. Nickel also served the European Parliament in various capacities, including director general for Committees and Delegations; deputy director of the private office of the President; deputy Secretary General of the Group of the Party of European Socialists, and head of division of the Committee on Institutional Affairs. During his tenure at the Secretariat-General of the European Parliament, Dr. Nickel served on a variety of committees, including the Committee on Energy, Research and Technology; the Institutional Affairs Committee; the Committee on Economic Recovery; the Committee on “Making a Success of the Single European Act”; the Committee on Legal Affairs and Citizens’ Rights; and the Committee on the Rules of Procedure and Verification of Credentials and Immunities. Prior to this service, Dr. Nickel lectured at the Legal Research Department of the European University Institute in Florence, Italy and served as a research assistant at the School of Constitutional and Administrative Law at the University of Hamburg. Dr. Nickel completed law studies in Hamburg and in Lausanne University in Switzerland.
