Dennis O'Brien

Dennis O’Brien (Co-Chair) is president emeritus of both the University of Rochester, New York (1984-94) and Bucknell University, Pennsylvania (1976-84), and has held a variety of administrative positions at Middlebury College, Vermont, and Princeton University, New Jersey. In addition to his administrative duties, Dr. O’Brien has taught courses in philosophy at the University of Rochester; Bucknell University; Middlebury College; Princeton University; La Salle College, Manila, Philippines; Rutgers University, New Jersey; and the University of Chicago, Illinois. His research interests include Hegel, philosophy of history, theology, philosophy of art, history of higher education, modern art, and philosophy. Dr. O’Brien received a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Chicago. He is treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Salzburg Seminar. He was a Fellow of Salzburg Seminar Special Session Educational Reform in South Africa in 1996, chair of Session 323 Higher Education: Institutional Structures for the Twenty-First Century in 1995, and has been a participant and faculty member at several Universities Project symposia.
