David Throsby

Professor of Economics, Macquarie University, School of Economic and Financial Studies, Sydney; Author, Economics and Culture

David Throsby is professor of economics at Macquarie University in Sydney. He has published widely on the economics of the arts and culture and the relationship between cultural and economic policy. His most recent book, Economics and Culture, was published with Cambridge University Press in 2001, and has been translated into Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. He is a past president of the Association for Cultural Economics International, and a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Cultural Economics, Poetics, and the International Journal of Cultural Policy. He is the co-editor (with Victor Ginsburgh) of the recently published Handbook of the Economics of Art and Culture (Amsterdam: Elsevier/North Holland). Currently, he is working on a book on the economics of cultural policy. Mr. Throsby holds a degree in agricultural economics from the University of Sydney and a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics. He served as a faculty member at Session 332, Preserving the National Heritage: Policies, Partnerships, and Actions, in 1995.
