David Thacker is the artistic director at The Octagon Theatre, Bolton. He was the director-in-residence of The Royal Shakespeare Company, London, from 1994 to 1995. He was the director of the Young Vic Theatre from 1984 to 1993 where his productions included The Crucible, The Glass Menagerie, All My Sons, and Ghosts, for which he received the Best Director Bass Charrington London Fringe Award in 1987. His long and distinguished career includes directing The Merry Wives of Windsor, Julius Caesar and Pericles, for which he received the Olivier Award for Best Director and Best Revival in 1991. He directed the Arthur Miller 80th Anniversary Gala for the Royal National Theatre in 1995, as well as Miller’s Death of a Salesman in 1997. He has served on the faculty of several Salzburg Global Seminar sessions.
