Daniel Mazmanian (Chair) is C. Erwin and Ione Piper dean and professor of the School of Policy, Planning, and Development at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He is a leading scholar in the fields of environmental policy and implementation, with an emphasis on sustainability. Two current streams of research focus on the greening of industry and on sustainable communities. From 1996 to 2000, he served as dean and professor at the School of Natural Resources and Environment, The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Prior to this, Dr. Mazmanian held for ten years the position of director at the Center for Politics and Economics at The Claremont Graduate University, California. Dr. Mazmanian has served on numerous boards and committees, including the National Advisory Board of Green Leaf National Honors Society of Environmental Studies. He was the founding president of the Policy Studies Section of the American Political Science Association, Washington, DC, and is a senior associate of the California Institute of Public Affairs, Sacramento. Dr. Mazmanian earned his Ph.D. in political science from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He served as a Faculty member of Salzburg Seminar Session 295, Protecting the Environment in Urban Areas, 1992.
