Claire Nelson is ideation leader of the Futures Forum, a research and education practice specializing in bringing the power of strategic foresight, the discipline of sustainability engineering, and the art of storytelling to complex challenges facing organizations and communities. Before establishing the Futures Forum, Claire was a senior development equity specialist at the Inter-American Development Bank. She served as a thought leader in promoting strategic foresight in development, and pioneered the topic of development with equity for people of African descent in Latin America. A sought after speaker, award-winning writer, and founder of the Institute of Caribbean Studies, the leading Caribbean American advocacy organization, Claire also serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of the World Future Review and Journal of Futures Studies, and is a member of the World Futures Studies Federation, and Association of Professional Futurists. Her many awards for leadership include the Ortiz Mena Award for Leadership (IADB), an Outstanding Alumni Award (Purdue), and being named a White House Champion of Change. Claire holds a bachelor's degree and a master's in industrial engineering and a Ph.D. in engineering management. She is distinguished as the first Jamaican woman to earn a doctorate in an engineering discipline and is a Fellow of multiple Salzburg Global Seminar programs.
