Ivan Sigal

Executive Director, Global Voices, the Netherlands

Ivan Sigal is the executive director of Global Voices. He is a media producer, digital media advocate, and visual storyteller. Currently, Ivan is a Fellow at Harvard University's Berkman Center for Internet & Society, where he studies digital storytelling and online communities. He is the author of White Road, a book of photography and writing about Central Asia. A solo show of that work premiered at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. He is now working on KCR, a video installation and multichannel documentary project on Karachi Circular Railway. Ivan is the board chair for the Open Society Foundation's Documentary Photography Project. Previously, he was an adjunct professor at the Corcoran College of Art & Design, teaching visual storytelling. He spent over ten years in the former Soviet Union and Asia, where he designed and ran dozens of media projects focusing on conflict, humanitarian disaster, and transitional societies. Ivan has lived and travelled in over 80 countries.
