Chris Brummer is a Georgetown University law professor, podcast host, and author, and lectures widely on financial technology and regulation, racial equity and global governance. In this capacity, he routinely advises governmental, nonprofit and private sector leaders around the world. His work has been featured in many media, including CNN, Marketwatch, Fast Company, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Yahoo Money, Roll Call, Cointelegraph, and Coin Desk, among others. Alongside his academic work, he has served as a member of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's (CFTC) Subcommittee on Virtual Currencies and on the Consultative Working Group for the European Securities and Markets Authority's (ESMA) Financial Innovation Standing Committee. Chris has also served as a member of the National Adjudicatory Council of FINRA, an organization empowered by Congress to regulate the securities industry, where his work was praised as making a significant contribution to advancing investor protection. Chris was nominated twice by President Obama to serve as a Commissioner on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and received unanimous approval for the post by the Senate Agriculture Committee prior to the 2016 election. President Trump withdrew all outstanding nominations upon taking office. He most recently served as a member of the Biden-Harris transition team. Chris is the founder of Washington DC's Fintech Week, an annual free event for the public, and is the co-founder and host of CQ Roll Call's Fintech Beat podcast. He serves as a nonexecutive member of the board of directors of Fannie Mae.
