Tom Huertas is currently a non-executive director and chair of the Risk Committee at Barclays Bank Ireland and a Senior Fellow at the Center for Financial Studies in Frankfurt. He was formerly a partner in Financial Services Risk Management practice at EY (2012 to 2018). From 2004 to 2011, Tom held a number of senior regulatory positions, including alternate chair of the European Banking Authority, member of the Executive Committee at the UK Financial Services Authority and member of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. In these capacities Tom played a significant role in the development of new capital and liquidity standards, remuneration standards and recovery and resolution requirements as well as in the supervision of troubled banks. Prior to 2004, Tom had a number of senior roles at Citigroup, including chairman of Citibank AG (Germany), country corporate officer for Switzerland and chief of staff to the vice chairman. Tom also acted as chairman and chief executive of Orbian plc (then a Citigroup joint venture), successfully launching this innovative trade finance solution before selling the company to a private investor. Tom has a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago and has published widely on financial services. Tom is a Fellow of Salzburg Global Seminar.
