Margaret Sinclair

Margaret Sinclair spearheaded the formation of NISSEM group (Networking to Integrate SDG 4.7 and SEL into Education Materials) and is co-convener of the group along with six academic and practitioner colleagues. In 2019, NISSEM prepared a volume of 42 expert briefs. She helped establish the Education Above All Foundation, and its Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict unit (2009-2017). Margaret authored UNESCO IIEP's Fundamentals of Education Planning Booklet 73, on planning education in and after emergencies (2002). She headed the education unit at UNHCR between 1993-1998. She has also worked for UNESCO, as adviser on education planning and as consultant on education in emergencies, including technical support to the first coordinator of the Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies. She holds a doctorate from Oxford University in biochemistry and in 2016 received an honorary doctorate from the University of Sussex recognizing her contribution to the field of education

in emergencies. She is an honorary research associate at the School of Education and Social Work at the University of Sussex.
