Warigia Hinga

Director, Tumaini Brooks Center, Kenya

Alice Hinga is the founder and director of Tumaini Brooks Centre, an organization that has continually provided education and other poverty alleviation services to very needy children for the last 20 years. Besides this, she has experience working with humanitarian programs in Somalia and Sudan through DFID, and has done extensive research with issues of ethno-political violence. Her interests are driven by a quest to discover innovative approaches to poverty eradication, non-violence especially in schools, and exploring the feasibility of restorative justice mechanisms towards healing relationships amongst victims of violence. Alice has a degree in community development from Daystar University in Nairobi, which has informed most of her grassroots level work. She obtained a master's degree in conflict transformation and peacebuilding from the Eastern Mennonite University, in Virginia, US, and a doctorate degree in international relations from the United States International University-Africa in Nairobi.
