Gustavo Faissol Janot de Matos is a critical care and patient safety physician at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein. His primary interest is to apply quality improvement skills, especially in the field of intensive care (extra corporeal assist devices, mechanical ventilation, lung transplant, sepsis). Currently he works on diagnostic error improvement and on extra corporeal life support as well as patient/family communication and support. Gustavo joined the hospital in 2001 as intensive care unit physician. Between 2012 and 2016 he was coordinator of the Medical Residency Program. He was also an IHI Fellow between 2016 and 2017. Gustavo graduated in internal medicine and critical care medicine from the University of Sao Paulo and served as assistant physician of the Liver Transplant Unit and Emergency Department between 1999 and 2003. He earned a Ph.D. in pulmonology from the University of Sao Paulo in 2007 (mechanical ventilation and acute respiratory distress syndrome).
