Maria Mejia

Sustainability Practitioner, Colombia

Maria Mejia is a sustainability practitioner from Colombia, now based in Germany as she is completing her postgraduate studies on Global Change Ecology. During her time in Germany, she has worked with the German Cooperation Agency-GIZ and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research-PIK. Maria is enthusiastic about cities in the Global South and is keen to understand the urban tropics through urban tropic narratives. She edited the book Urban Nature: A Platform of Experiences (2016) and is currently exploring how power and place-based struggles shape the ecology of cities. She holds a double major bachelor's degree: political science and economics, and following one of her personal-life passions, she received a diploma accrediting a minor in architecture and the city (Universidad de los Andes, Colombia).
