Maki Umeda

Professor, Research Institute of Nursing Care for People and Community, University of Hyogo, Japan

Maki Umeda is a professor at the Research Institute of Nursing Care for People and Community, University of Hyogo. She has been working in the fields of nursing, public health, and social epidemiology since she received her M.A. in first nations studies from the University of Northern British Columbia in Canada and an M.P.H. and Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo in Japan. She joined the research institute in 2018 and now extends her work to global health and disaster management. Her projects include social determinants of health, particularly mental health and reproductive health, socially inclusive healthcare, and reconstruction of communities after disasters. She is interested in transforming social values towards better quality of life and multidisciplinary approaches to it.
