Since 2007, Clem McCartney has been policy and content co-coordinator of the Shared Societies Project, an initiative of the World Leadership Alliance-Club de Madrid, the network of over 100 former heads of state and heads of government. The Project focuses on social exclusion on grounds such as race, ethnicity, religion, language, and migration. It highlights the importance of an inclusive, participative approach to the development and implementation of policies to address the obstacles to a shared society and facilitate inter-community harmony based on addressing the concerns of all communities. He has been directly involved in developing the materials of the project and has taken part in numerous Club de Madrid Missions to international bodies and several countries. Previously he was an independent consultant on conflict and community issues and strategies of conflict resolution and peace-building. He is a Fellow of Session 267, Negotiation Theory and Practice: Political Differences, in 1988.
