Tessie San Martin

President and Chief Executive officer, Plan International USA

Tessie San Martin is president and chief executive officer of Plan International USA, a global child rights organization working in more than 70 countries. Under her leadership, Plan is investing in enhancing reporting and accountability mechanisms and emphasizing gender transformative programming that addresses the root causes of gender inequality. Prior to coming to Plan Tessie held a number of senior positions in international development. These include group vice president for International at Abt Associates, a research and international development firm, director for the operations group of the World Bank's Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), overseeing the agency's political risk insurance and technical assistance programs, and partner at IBM Consulting Services (formerly PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting), where she was responsible for the USAID account. Tessie has a Ph.D. in political economy and government from Harvard University, a Master's of Public Administration from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and a B.S. in foreign service from Georgetown University.
