Alex Hooker is a senior program officer at the Stephen D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation in San Francisco, California. He joined the organization in 2012. Alex is interested in how nature-based programming activates parks and protected lands and leads to academic, youth development, and conservation outcomes in young people. He currently manages a nationwide initiative that focuses on using data to improve educators' abilities to build Social and Emotional Learning and character skills in young people. Alex previously worked on conservation issues in national parks and other protected lands, including implementation of community-based strategies for restoring habitat for endangered species. He received a bachelor's degree in conservation biology from the University of Minnesota.
