Mariet Westerman oversees the grant making and research programs of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, New York one of the largest funders of the arts and humanities in the United States. Since joining the Foundation in 2010 she has launched initiatives that expand access to these disciplines, encourage innovation in universities and museums, and support artists at risk of persecution. In 2015, she commissioned a groundbreaking study of diversity in American art museums. Before joining the foundation, she was founding provost of New York University Abu Dhabi and director of NYU's Institute of Fine Arts. Mariet has published extensively on the history of Netherlandish art, and serves on the boards of MASS MoCA and The Little Red School House in New York as well as the Institute of International Education and its Scholar Rescue Fund.
