Alissandra Cummins

Director, Barbados Museum and Historical Society, Bridgetown, Barbados

Alissandra Cummins is director of the Barbados Museum and Historical Society, Bridgetown and a lecturer of museum and heritage studies at The University of the West Indies, Kingston where she also serves as its principal investigator for the EU-LAC Museum project. She currently also serves as editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Intangible Heritage and is a member of the board of the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience serving as its representative on the International Scientific Committee of the Maison des Esclaves Revitalization Project based on the Goree Island, Senegal. Prior to this, she was the founding president of the Museums Association of the Caribbean, president of the International Council of Museums and chairperson of the UNESCO Executive Board. Alissandra has also chaired UNESCO's International Advisory Committee of the Memory of the World Program and its ICPRCP on illicit traffic and was vice chair of the World Heritage Committee. She is also a member of the World Monuments Watch Selection Panel. She holds a B.A. (Hons) in art history from the University of East Anglia, UK and an M.A. in museum studies from Leicester University, UK.
