Malte Gerhold is Director of Innovation & Improvement at the Health Foundation, an independent charitable organisation working to build a healthier UK. He oversees the Foundation's portfolio of funding programmes, insight, research and strategic partnerships to support innovation and improvement in health and care, including digital, health tech and data analytics. Before joining the Foundation, he was Chief Integrated Care Officer at Birdie, a care tech start up helping older adults to live longer, safer and happier in their own home by revolutionising the way care is coordinated around them. Prior to that, he was a Board member and Executive Director of Strategy and Intelligence at the Care Quality Commission, the quality regulator for health and care services in England. He also lived and worked in Sierra Leone, leading a team advising the president on the implementation of the government's priorities in health, energy, agriculture and investment. In the UK, he has worked as a Strategy Consultant, an Adviser at the Prime Minister's Delivery Unit, and Deputy Director of the Strategy Unit at the Department of Health. Malte has a B.Sc. from the London School of Economics and a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford. He is a Fellow of the RSA, a former Fellow of the Cambridge Centre for Science and Policy, and became a Sciana Fellow in 2019.
