Grace Maina

Senior Deputy Director, Curriculum and Research Services, Kenyan Institute for Curriculum Development, Kenya

Grace Ngugi Maina is a curriculum specialist at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, the institution that is mandated to advise the government on curriculum matters. She has 18 years of experience in curriculum development. Grace is the deputy director in-charge of the Special Programs Division that is responsible for early childhood development education, special needs education, and pertinent and contemporary issues (PCIs). The later section is the one that hosts SEL in the ongoing curriculum Reform Process in Kenya. She is also an author, counsellor and an education consultant in life skills, child care and development, human sexuality education, disaster risk reduction, global citizenship, and education in emergencies amongst others. She has also been involved in education related engagements nationally and internationally, including as a keynote speaker during a workshop on 'Embedding Social and Emotional Learning in textbooks and other educational materials' at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C; and as a facilitator in a workshop organized by Regional Education and Learning Initiatives (RELI) in Dar es Salaam in June 2018. Grace holds a degree in education and is trained as a counselling psychologist at diploma and masters level. She is currently pursuing Ph.D. in educational psychology.
