William Uricchio is a professor and director of the Comparative Media Studies Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and professor for comparative media history at Utrecht University. He is also a DREAM national professor in Denmark and fellow of the Institute for Advanced Study (Lichtenberg Kolleg) at Göttingen University. He was a visiting professor at the University of Stockholm (once in journalism and communication; once in film and television), at the Freie Universität Berlin, at Phillips- Universität-Marburg and at the University of Science and Technology in China. Interests include revisiting the histories of old media when they were new; algorithmic enablements of participatory cultural forms; the history and future of television; cultural identities and the question of 'Americanization' in the 20th and 21st Centuries. Publications include We Europeans? (Chicago/Intellect 2008); Media Cultures (Heidelberg, 2006) and many others. He earned a Ph.D. and M.A. in cinema studies from New York University.
