Bill Reckmeyer

Professor of Leadership and Systems, San Jose State University

William Reckmeyer (Session Chair) is Professor of Leadership and Systems, International and Extended Studies Senior Fellow, and Director of the SJSU Salzburg Program at San José State University. Most of Dr. Reckmeyer's career as a professor and practitioner has focused on the use of integrated systemic approaches to collaborative strategic planning, in the form of policy studies and applied change projects, in complex organizational, community, national, and global settings. Dr. Reckmeyer has served as an advisor to the US, Californian, and Australian governments on national strategy and inter-agency cooperation during the past 40 years, including responsibilities as chief systems scientist for the Systems of Systems Center of Excellence with the US Department of Defense; and as a visiting professor at Harvard, Stanford, Sydney, and more than a dozen other universities in the US, Europe, and Australia. He has also been president of the American Society for Cybernetics, a Kellogg National Leadership Fellow, a member of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation's National Task Force on Leadership in Higher Education, and is an AASCU Global Engagement Scholar. Dr. Reckmeyer holds an M.A. in Russian history and a Ph.D. in Russian studies from American University. A fellow or faculty member for several Salzburg Global Seminar sessions since 1995, Dr. Reckmeyer has served as a core faculty member for the GCP sessions for college faculty and administrators since 2004.
