Viduthalai Virumbi Balagurusamy currently works as a medical officer, at the Directorate of Public Health and Preventative Medicine, Chennai, India. His areas of interest are surveillance and response during mass gatherings and disasters, and GIS based public health solutions. He played a major role in establishing surveillance during the Chennai Flood, 2015 and Mahamaham festival 2016. He is pivotal in developing the Communicable Disease Surveillance Portal, State Health Platform Standards and leading the informatics division of the State Public Health Department. He did his undergraduate degree in medicine (MBBS) and a two-year India FETP (MPH) at ICMR School of Public Health, ICMR-NIE, Chennai.
