Donna Chu

Associate Professor, School of Journalism and Communication, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, China

Donna Chu, currently associate professor in the School of Journalism and Communication in the Chinese University of Hong Kong, works on research about youth media culture, gender and media literacy. Since 2012, she has started a media literacy summer project for secondary school students in Hong Kong. In 2017, she has founded Mars Media Academy, a social enterprise, to engage in the teaching and learning of media and information literacy in networked society. She obtained her PhD in the University of Hong Kong. Prior to joining the academia, she had worked in different media positions, including scriptwriter, researcher, television director and producer. She won a major TV award in Chicago Television and Film Festival in 2001 with a half-hour children programme about media literacy. She received a finalist award in the 2017 New York Festivals with a documentary on sustainable development in Sweden.
