Hoa Nguyen is a Ph.D. student at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism, University of Maryland. He is a Humphrey Alumnus from Vietnam (2007-2008). Hoa's research interests include, but not limited to news media literacy, social media, television programming, climate change and user engagement. He has been TAing several courses at Merrill such as Media Literacy, Journalism Ethics, Special Topics in Journalism; Leadership: Making a Difference, and College Park Scholars Program.
He is now working on a paper about the relationship between news media literacy and climate risk perception in Vietnam and another one on the media coverage of the Sino-Vietnamese War in 1979.
He holds a bachelor degree in Journalism from the Academy of Journalism and Communication, Vietnam and an M.Sc in Communication Management from the University of Stirling.
