Caroline Pontefract

Director of Education, UNRWA, Jordan

Caroline Pontefract has been the director of education, UNESCO post, since 2010. She spearheaded a systemic reform of the UNRWA education program, and led on an agency-wide education in emergencies approach. The outcome has been improvements in all key education indicators, from student completion rate to learning outcomes. Prior to working with UNRWA, Caroline worked for UNESCO as chief of teacher education, for DFID in Kenya, Ghana and London, and as director of the gender, health and education program for the Commonwealth Secretariat. She has taught in schools, universities and teacher centers in the UK.
