W. Donald Weston is vice chancellor of health services at the University System of West Virginia in Charleston, West Virginia. Dr. Weston is responsible for overseeing and managing a statewide initiative to make medical education more responsive to the needs of rural communities. Prior to becoming vice chancellor, Dr. Weston was dean of the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University for twelve years. Throughout 1992, he was acting secretary of the Department of Health and Human Resources in West Virginia. He also served then as vice chair of the Governor's Cabinet on Children and Families, the Medicaid Crisis Panel, and the Governor's Interagency Council on Health, as well as senior adviser on health reform issues. Dr. Weston has served in many administrative and academic positions during his career, including six years as a member of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. He has authored and co-authored a number of medical articles and papers. Dr. Weston received his undergraduate and medical education from the University of Southern California, an M.S. in management from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and an honorary degree of D.S. from Northern Michigan University. His medical specialties are pediatrics and child psychiatry.
