Benjamin Cohen is the Louis G. Lancaster professor of international political economy at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Professor Cohen began his career as an economist in the Research Department in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and later became an assistant professor in the Department of Economics at Princeton University, New Jersey. In 1971, he moved to Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, where he later served as the William L. Clayton professor of international economic affairs in The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Professor Cohen has worked as a consultant for several US government agencies and international organizations and is the author of a dozen books, including The Geography of Money (1998) and The Future of Money (2004). His latest book, International Political Economy: An Intellectual History, was published in early 2008. He is a member of the Editorial Board of International Organization and a member of the Advisory Board of the Princeton Encyclopedia of the World Economy. Professor Cohen holds a Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University, New York. He has a long-time affiliation with the Salzburg Global Seminar, most recently as faculty member at Session 445, Challenges to the International Monetary System: Rebalancing Currencies, Institutions, and Rules, in 2007.
