Sabelo Lindani

Head of Green Futures College, Grootbos Foundation, South Africa

Sabelo Lindani is head of Green Futures College at the Grootbos Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to conserve the Cape Floral Kingdom whilst developing sustainable livelihoods through eco-tourism, enterprise development, sports development, and education. He has wide ranging experience in protected area management, capacity development, youth development, and community conservation. He previously worked for the City of Cape Town in South Africa as an ecological coordinator for the Recreation and Parks department where his role was to ensure that the natural ecosystems within this urban area are receiving protection. At the same time, he had to ensure that the local communities were involved and embrace the protection of their local natural heritage. Prior to that role, Sabelo was a conservation manager at Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve, a mountain catchment area that supplies water to millions of people in the surrounding areas. In this role he tried to bridge the gap between conservation and the local communities through conservation management forums, environmental education, and local economic development programmes. He is a member of the World Commission on Protected Areas of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and serves on a number of committees including the Regional Leadership for Young Professionals. He serves on a number of local boards and organizations and is a steering committee member of the youth arm of a global foundation called CoationWILD. Sabelo holds a bachelor's degree in nature conservation.
