Stephanie Sanderson

Stephanie Sanderson is a consultant for the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) and leads on their Nature Connect Program. In this role, she leads a research team that is developing measures for Aichi Target 1: "By 2020, at the latest, people are aware of the values of biodiversity and the steps they can take to conserve and use it sustainably." and provides grants to zoos and aquariums to run projects connecting families to nature worldwide. Stephanie has more than twenty years of experience working in the zoo and wildlife sector. Prior to her work for WAZA, she was director of science and education and the living collection at Chester Zoo, UK, which is one of the top ten zoos in the world. Stephanie is also a zoologist and veterinarian and has had extensive experience working hands on with a wide range of species. Stephanie is a trustee of the Centre for Alternative Technology, an eco-center in Wales that is dedicated to demonstrating and teaching practical solutions for sustainability, and the Executive Director of the European Association of Zoo and Wildlife Veterinarians. Stephanie graduated from Cambridge University in 1994 with zoology and veterinary degrees.
