Malancha Chakrabarty

Associate Fellow, Observer Research Foundation, New Delhi, India

Malancha Chakrabarty is an associate fellow at the Observer Research Foundation (ORF). From 2009 to 2010, Malancha served as a consultant in the Transport Division of the Planning Commission. Also prior to joining ORF, she worked as an associate fellow at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). At TERI, she worked on a number of projects related to energy demand forecasting, green economy, urban transport, and sustainable development. She was the coordinator of all side events organized by TERI at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio+20 Conference. She was also part of the group at TERI which gave input to the Ministry of Environment and Forests for the Rio+20 summit. She is particularly interested in understanding the impact of emerging countries such as India, China, and Brazil on Africa's development process. Malancha holds a Ph.D. in economics from the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her research explores the nature and impact of Chinese trade, investment, and development cooperation in three sub-Saharan African countries, namely Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Ethiopia.
