Benedito dos Santos

Benedito Rodgrigues dos Santos currently works as a university professor at the Catholic University of Goiás State, Brazil, where he is part of the Center for Studies, Research and Extension on Childhood and the Adolescence Youth Village. Complementary to his academic work, he has been working as an activist for children’s rights movements. He is one of the founders and members of several Brazilian organizations, among them the Brazilian Movement of Street Boys and Girls, and the National NGO Forum in Defense of Children’s Rights. Professor dos Santos also belongs to the advisory boards of the São Bernardo Street Children’s Project, the Abrinq Foundation, Educative Action, and the New Agency for Children’s Rights. Since 1995, he has been working as UNICEF consultant for street children policies and child labor eradication policies in Brazil, Romania and Albania. He holds a master’s degree in anthropology from Pontificia Universidade Católica de São Paulo, and is a Kellogg Fellow, currently pursuing a Ph.D. in anthropology at the University of California at Berkeley, USA.
