William Hu

William Hu is an assistant professor of neurology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a leading physician scientist in using biomarkers to diagnose Alzheimer's and related diseases (ARD), characterizing cognitive decline in unique populations, and working with persons with dementia to advance research. His laboratory focuses on combining biochemical and bioinformatics approaches to diagnose ARD, investigating the role of inflammation in ARD, elucidating new disease mechanisms in familial ARD, and exploring the intersection between ARD and HIV. William has also been active internationally in promoting dementia friendly communities. He and his colleagues conducted the first global survey on best practices in designing signage for dementia friendly communities, led the first focus groups in southeastern United States to define and refine "dementia friendly", and developed a novel tool to measure stigma associated with dementia. He obtained his M.D. and Ph.D. from Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
