Susan Saxon-Harrold

Chief Executive Officer

Susan Saxon-Harrold is the former vice president of Research for INDEPENDENT SECTOR (IS) in Washington, DC, a coalition of 700 foundations, corporate grant makers and nonprofits. At IS she ran a multi-million dollar research program studying American philanthropy and the nonprofit sector and its contribution to the US economy. She worked for ten years in London for Charities Aid Foundation, an international foundation and nonprofit bank, and in 1995 became one of three International Civil Society Consultants in its international management consultancy department. For almost three years she worked with nonprofits, foundations, companies and government on promoting and assessing civil society development in Central and East Europe and the former Soviet Union. In 1992 Dr. Saxon-Harrold began working for Sir John Templeton setting up a foundation in the UK that would identify nonprofit projects to receive training and grant aid with a goal of developing them in capacity building, volunteer management, and organizational effectiveness. In all, 3,500 small charities were assisted via the Templeton Institutes. She taught organizational analysis for three years in the 1980s at Bradford University Management Centre, a leading business school. Dr. Saxon-Harrold received her doctorate in strategic management from Bradford University, England.
